Brief introduction to The Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen’s Mansion
The Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen’s Mansion, located on the south bank of the Pearl River and adjacent to the Haizhu Bridge, is based on the former site of the Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion, a National Key Culture Relic Protection Unit announced by the State Council in 1996. As one of the fifth group of national first-class museums, the museum has been given the titles of Cross-Strait Exchange Base, Education Base for Members of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Guangdong Patriotic Education Base, Guangdong United Front Base, Guangdong Social Science Popularization Base, Education Base for Guangdong Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Guangzhou Patriotic Education Base, Guangzhou Education Base for Members of Chinese Communist Party, Guangzhou National Defense Education Base, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Exchange Base, Haizhu District Patriotic Education Base, and National 3A-level Tourist Attraction.
From 1917 to 1925, Sun Yat-sen established his revolutionary power three times in Guangdong, two of which he set up the office in this mansion where he led the Constitutional Protection Movement and the National Revolutionary Movement, built Huangpu Military Academy, and initiated the first Kuomintang-Communist party cooperation, producing an important and far-reaching influence on the Chinese history. The Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen’s Mansion is not only the stronghold of the Constitutional Protection Movement and the cradle of the National Revolution, but also an important witness site where the Communist Party of China first successfully employed the united front, a magic revolutionary weapon, and achieved remarkable successes. The mansion is the most magnificent site in the world where Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling once lived together, with the duration of residence longer than their other domicile places. The site was originally built as the office center of Canton Cement Factory in 1906. The existing buildings include the gate and two Chinese-and-Western gallery-type architectures, which were selected as one of the fourth batch of China’s 20th Century Architectural Heritages in 2019.
In 1997, the site was maintained and rebuilt as a memorial museum of Sun Yat-sen by the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government. Restoration of Generalissimo Mansion, Sun Yat-sen’s Three Revolutionary Powers in Guangdong, Sun Yat-sen’s Early Years of Struggle before 1912, Architect Arthur W. Purnell with China, and Great Figures from Generalissimo’s Mansion are included as permanent exhibitions.
Introduction du Mémorial du Manoir du Généralissime Sun Yat-sen
Copyright © THE MEMORIAL MUSEUM OF GENERALISSIMO SUN YAT-SEN'S MANSION
